I've been asking myself how to make the best use of the "Training" cards that have been made available to us. It seems to me that Spider-Woman is pretty much the top choice here, because it will let her re-use some of her signature cards, Pheromones, and Contaminant Immunity.

So, I built this deck and so far, it's been fun to play and holds up nicely (altough I didn't try the campaigns yet). I did a quick search before writing this: so far only one other author, Onions, has done a similar experiment, altough his decklist and mine differ greatly. Good job on seeing the potential!

Basic idea

You want to play Spider-Woman's strenghts. To me, Pheromones and Contaminant Immunity are the key to her success, locking down the villain and keeping your hp high while negating damage.

Don't forget "training" cards are Alter-Ego cards. Doesn't matter much as you'll often go bas to AE with a confused villain, draw 6, use Jessica Drew's Apartment, benefit from your Training cards...

Priorities:

Play both Finesse and Deft Focus! This will allow you to play 2-3cards a turn, making you a 4/4/4 and keeping the villain locked down.

A few notes on the choice of cards / combos:

Nice use of the Training cards. I've been playing around with an Adam Warlock deck to use them all.

I actually prefer my Spider-Woman decks in the 45 card to 50 card range to improve the odds of getting an aspect card. What cards would you add from each aspect to bring the deck to 46 or so?

Thanks a lot!

To answer your question, I would choose Leading Blow in protection and Morale Boost in leadership! Morale Boost is actually +2 to all your stats if it's the first leadership card you play. Leading Blow is +1 to all, plus the opportunity to ready and attack with boosted stats, at a "0".

Cool deck! I've been tinkering with a very similar one. The training cards are such a neat addition for Spider-woman due to her unique aspect cards. One question tho; have you tried crew quarters? Exhausting to heal is very costly for S-W, and you will form swap quite a lot. I found crew quarters superior to endurance anyway :)

@stilonxy Hey thanks! Honestly I never felt like I needed more heal because the villain is mostly stunned or SW is tough and heals with Contaminant Immunity repeatedly. I agree it's a very good card though and may be relevant since I spend quite some time in AE!

@neothechosen fair enough. I think the biggest challenge with this kind of deck is controlling the board vs minion heavy encounters while also dealing damage to the villain, let's say Expert Green Goblin w/ Goblin Gimmicks. That's what I found at least. Recycling survival cards will bloat your deck, and if you aim to play one Pheromones/Contaminant Immunity each round you'll force a very slow game. Any thoughts?

@stilonxy You are right indeed! I was worried when I started the game against Klaw (w/ Masters of evil). Minion control took a good deal of my turns. Fortunately I had Warlock to take out tough cards from Armored Guards. I had to use beefed attacks twice on heavier minions (Self-Propelled Glide) or Venom Blast to get the job done.

That's why you REALLY need your 2 Finesse and Deft Focus. This allows you to play a few cards every turn and get decent attacks. Venom Blast is essential to your success here. I really like that Self-Propelled Glide can be paid in full with Deft Focus, real helpful. And also, that's the reason you really want to revert to AE when the villain is confused: you need the 6 cards hand, and the use of Jessica Drew's Apartment, to get somewhere.

All in all the Klaw game went well, but it was really long (got through the encounter deck twice).

I think to get solid minion control as SW, you'd need to play aggro. Altough Hard Knocks could have been a good idea. Played right, it could also help with the tough status theme. May try this out yet!

Wow! More Pheromones! Glad to see some love for Warlock as well. I was wondering how much use you get out of Expert Defense. Do you find that +3 defense is needed?

Jan 25, 2022 neothechosen · 9894

@Onions So sorry, I hadn't seen your message. Actually the +3 def came in handy when the villain wasn't stunned, but some games it was just not useful 'cause I had too much Pheromones. It depends on your draw, if your 2 Pheromones are sitting on the bottom of your deck, you may well need it.

@neothechosen a tad bit slow on the response. Anyway, I think we share the idea that S-W really needs her resource generators out asap. I'm currently trying Leadership/Justice and Leadership/Aggression, which both will allow for some really good deck cycling. I've found recycling Pheromones and running 3 copies of Press the Advantage pretty cool for example. Hope to eventually post a complete decklist.
