Sinister Motives has blessed us with support for the S.H.I.E.L.D. trait. Cards like Agent 13, Dum Dum Dugan, Global Logistics, and Government Liaison liason add some cohesion to S.H.I.E.L.D. While there are no heroes with S.H.I.E.L.D., there are a few Alter-Egos, and in my opinion, Spider-Woman is the best option given her dual aspect ability.

Jessica Drew, Leader of S.H.I.E.L.D. is not the easiest deck to pilot, but it provides an enormous amount of flexibility to find an answer for any situation. The main engine for this deck is Global Logistics and Homeland Intervention, cards that work by exhausting S.H.I.E.L.D. cards you control. It's important to note that they only specify cards, so there are many options that may not seem obvious at first glance.

The best options are things that you don't exhaust for anything anyway, like The Triskelion, or things that have a certain number of uses, like allies (Agent 13, Agent Coulson, Maria Hill, and Monica Chang) or some of the other supports like Command Team or Surveillance Team. Other options, if you don't find any other value out of them this round are Government Liaison, Helicarrier, and even Jessica Drew.

This deck basically provides you with a lot of options and the ability to maximise your turns by finding the tools you need when you need them.

Jessica Drew's ability lets you look at the top card of your deck. Her Apartment digs for aspect cards, and Homeland Intervention can stack either the encounter deck or your own player deck before playing Strength In Numbers, Maria Hill, or Nick Fury to draw cards to ensure that you draw the best answer for what the game has thrown at you.

A time-tested combo of Agent Coulson and Rapid Response is here, in which Coulson can block for you, Rapid Response can bring him back into play, and he can immediately grab that Rapid Response and put it into your hand, thwart for 2 on the next round, and do it all over again. There are a few other options with the newer Command Team, Agent 13, and Monica Chang, as well as old reliables like Maria Hill and Nick Fury.

In addition to all of that, Sky-Destroyer helps ping 2 extra damage a round wherever you need it to go. This coupled with Global Logistics' extremely efficient thwarting, and the versatility of Spider-Woman's Superhuman Agility means that you can thwart or attack (or both!) every round and don't have to commit to just one.

Some General Tips and Tricks

Try to play as many colours as possible each round. Homeland Intervention and Jessica Drew's Apartment help you find your copies of Venom Blast and Contaminant Immunity to help buff Spider-Woman's stats even further. In addition to that, Strength In Numbers just lets you draw a lot of cards to help find you those colours.

In general, it's best to draw cards before you do other actions, but try to stack your deck with Jessica Drew's Alter-Ego action or Homeland Intervention first. After playing any card draw, then use Jessica Drew's Apartment apartment to dig further, which will maximise the amount of cards you see before you can start playing out your turn. Although Strength In Numbers only draws a maximum of 4 cards, the card draw will be much more substantial, and you can generally check your deck first and decide if you want to play it at all, instead using your allies for their activations.

Try to have at least one Surveillance Team in the discard pile when you play Monica Chang, but don't be afraid to leave them on the board as fuel for your other cards.

Agent 13 can ready a S.H.I.E.L.D. support when she activates, and Command Team can ready an ally by exhausting it and using a counter. Together, you can get a lot of burst thwart or damage when you need it. She can also let you use Helicarrier, Government Liaison, or Sky-Destroyer more than once in a turn (and even more times if you ready her with Command Team.

Like always, Finesse helps tie everything together by helping to pay for any aspect cards, and Band Together builds up quite quickly and can help pay for all the important basic cards like Agent 13, Nick Fury, Helicarrier, and Sky-Destroyer.

Helicarrier is chosen over Quincarrier and others because of the S.H.I.E.L.D. trait, so it can be discounted by Government Liaison, triggers Sky-Destroyer, and can be readied by Agent 13.

Closing Remarks

There is a lot to unpack here, but it provides a rewarding style of play that finds an answer to any question the encounter deck asks. It is one of the most stable and versatile decks for solo play and can help in multiplayer sessions by helping to fill in any gaps that are missing as necessary. Sign up for S.H.I.E.L.D. today, and help save the Earth from all threats foreign or domestic!

The high cost curve of a lot of those shield cards is nicely balanced by the 0-cost Global Logistics and Homeland Intervention. Now we just need an Honorary SHIELD Agent card to be able to bring Captain Marvel into the fold.

@josseroo indeed! there's so much upfront cost to a lot of things, but there's so much economy and so much value from Global Logistics and Homeland Intervention. a S.H.I.E.L.D. Captain Marvel would be the dream though haha. we can pray

Awesome deck! I put together one that is very similar, but it also has a copy of Leadership Training to cycle Pheromones back into the deck. Between that and the Rapid Response combos (which I love using on Chang, even if it is better to use with Coulson), its super easy to lock the villain out of the game.

Apr 11, 2022 dr00 · 39715

@Moby a very good option! I only didn't use it because I'm already at 41 cards lol, but I do love it with her

normally I post "other options" so maybe I should here because honestly there are so many options

and about rapid response, yeah there are so many good targets for it. I played a game last night where I used it on captain marvel just so I could get enough to defeat the villain lol. coulson is a good combo, but there's so many strong plays with it

@dr00 @Moby Wouldn't expect anything less than another stellar deck from the deckmaster. I've been running something similar too, but I also use Leadership Training in mine. What blue card would you suggest I replace or what yellow card would you add for this version?

Hey man, awesome deck and write up, I was reading and I think you may have mixed up Global Logistics and Homeland Intervention, I could be wrong, but did you mean to play the Ratio of 3 GL and 2 HI? but still the deck is awesome, love the Agent Colson into a free 2 THW and 2 Damage with Sky-Destroyer guaranteed combo!

Apr 13, 2022 dr00 · 39715

@Renna you know i totally did! haha. but i think in terms of the card counts, it's totally fine to run the opposite of what i meant. i think having more Global Logistics to help maximise your card draws can be just as valuable as having all the great thwart from Homeland Intervention. to directly answer your question, yes i did mean to have 3 of the thwart event and 2 of the peak event though lol

I like this deck a lot but I've had terrible luck drawing Band Together with no allies in play. There's only 6 allies in the deck and half of them are designated blockers (Maria/Monica/Nick). Maybe it's just against my nature to eat a villain attack when I could throw an ally in the way instead.

I ended up swapping out the Band Togethers for Make the Call to recur Maria/Monica/Nick/Phil more often and trigger their enters-play abilities. It also helped me get more mileage out of Strength In Numbers and Command Team.

@manvsdeck yeah, thanks for the comment! i think it's definitely a playstyle thing. i do defend a lot with Spider-Woman here, so if you're not doing that, cards like Make the Call, an extra Rapid Response, or more chump blockers can be decent. i think i would say that only Nick is a designated blocker. Maria can kill herself while thwarting for 2 and combos with Rapid Response which lets her do it again immediately. I'm also fine with Monica just being a target for Global Logistics and Homeland Intervention, along with Surveillance Team. for 3 effective resources, you get ~4 thwarting power and 2 targets for those cards, which feels pretty nice tbh. leaving them out as targets also powers up Band Together, but i can definitely see the playstyle of just recycling them as often as possible. Make the Call is a really good replacement. i think it might be correct even for my own playstyle to drop 1 BT and add one MtC. definitely worth some testing

Love this deck! Was doing the Sinister Motive campaign and for Aspect Advantage added in 3 copies of Med Team to further the shield synergy, heal up Captain Marvel and add more Green for SW.

Apr 21, 2022 LordVader13 · 3

@Lidow I added 3 copies of Tac Team for my Aspect Advantage. I wanted to add a little more punch to the deck while still taking advantage of the Shield synergy

Love this deck! Well done.

I'm not sure if this is what @Renna meant, bit in your write up you mention Global Logistics and Homeland Intervention in each others' place a couple of times. I.e. you mention Global Logistics thwarting but that's the one that looks at a deck. Regardless, looks like an interesting deck. Great idea :)

@dr00, your decks are my favorites, and this did not disappoint. very fun. thank you.

May 11, 2022 dr00 · 39715

@Lidow yeah the aspect advantage is such an important decision here because a low-cost card can help buff her stats more often, but i definitely like Med Team to keep Agent 13 around. you can also do some crazy combos with her, Command Team, and Med Team. i also love @LordVader13's suggestion of Tac Team, which i think is a pretty underrated card. it gets around retaliate, guard, can ping toughness, can activate multiple times with Agent 13 and can sit there with 1 counter until you're ready to use it and be fuel for cards like Global Logistics and Homeland Intervention

@GoldLeader: love you! thanks for the support!

@Marctimmins89 haha yeah, i did. when i first posted it, the site wasn't updated with the card text. i kept checking my cards but still kept mixing them up haha, so that was my bad. glad you enjoyed it though!

@Scambilargiu you're nice! :D

@mistergross hey, i appreciate it! glad you enjoyed it :D

I just wanna say that I've played Sinister Motives with this deck and I really had fun. In my case I donĀ“t care about 42 cards deck or above so I added Mockingbird as she is SHIELD and she helps you stunning enemies (especially in normal II/expert). At the beggining I also had bad luck drawing Band Together as I used the allies to defend but I changed my playstyle to optimize it and the deck really shined.

I had not thinked about Med Team before but as said before It will help a lot.

Interesting, you can exhaust cards that don't have an "exhaust" ability on them? If so wonder what other combos or things this could be useful for that I've overlooked.

Jun 24, 2022 dr00 · 39715

@Pons92 glad to hear it! Mockingbird is such a great ally.

@Hutch23 yep, exactly. any card can be exhausted by other cards if they interact with them. i'm sure you've seen encounter effects that exhaust cards you control. if it doesn't need to exhaust to use its ability, then that's great. you can Mean Swing a Jarnbjorn and still use the damage ability because it doesn't need to exhaust to do it. Global Logistics and Homeland Intervention have the exhaust ability. you just need a legal target, and things like The Triskelion are cards with the SHIELD trait.

Nice deck. I've player with it Galaxy Most Wanted true solo. I won first 4 scenarios in 6 attempts (lost once with Collector I and once with Nebula). But then I have 10 attempts to Ronan and all lost... There are not enough high dmg cards... Besides Ronan really enjoyed!

Feb 01, 2023 the.jxc · 8

I just tried this deck. Worked great! Only question would be regarding Strength In Numbers.

Before starting I ditched one of the Strength In Numbers in order to get a Leadership Training so that I could recur Pheromones because it's one of the best damn cards in the game IMHO.

But then during the game when Strength In Numbers turned up, I found that I didn't want to play it... because it's essentially an anti-synergy with the SHIELD "exhaust" requirements. I'm thinking that even something like Inspiring Presence might be more useful, perhaps.

Feb 03, 2023 the.jxc · 8

Update: I ditched the second copy of Strength In Numbers and replaced it with a single copy of Go All Out...

...which I ended up using twice in the match-up against Thanos - first time for 12 and again next turn for 9 more (thanks to recursion via Leadership Training and Jessica Drew's Apartment.

May 26, 2023 dr00 · 39715

@wojciech yeah, this deck does take a while to get going, and Ronan definitely requires a more aggressive tactic. was it just the one hero? have you tried it again?

@the.jxc yes, Leadership Training has a similar result to Strength in Numbers, so swapping one for the other is totally fine. As for the deck strategy, SiN is simply another option that lets you exhaust something, but the only overlap should be allies. with Triskelion, you can get to 4 allies, and you can build for some strong turns, especially for allowing you to turn Command Teams into value if you need it. If you have a strategy that doesn't keep allies on the board, it definitely loses a lot of value. Glad you found something that worked for you, though!
