My preferred way to play Doctor Strange is as a master of manipulation. Keep those important allies out, keep heroes in hero mode for long periods of time, take down threat smoothly, cancel all of the bad treachery, and blast villains to smithereens with your spells. I think this is the best path for Dr. Strange in protection as he should not be defending at all. This is a waste of his valuable invocation deck which you should be trying to use 1-2 times a turn, every turn.
Doctor Strange's only weakness is dealing with a wide board but keeping your friends with extra resources allows them to assist you with dealing with any sudden surges on your end.
I play 2 player or two handed exclusively and have defeated all expert villains with either Hydra or Doomsday Chair as the modules pairing this deck several others (She-Hulk, Cap, and Captain Marvel so far). I don’t see why this wouldn’t work solo either between keeping allies up and playing crimson bands/magic blast you could get damage in.
