Take advantage of Wolverine's incredible ability of paying for attack events with his HIT POINTS, as opposed to the conventional cost mechanic! Getting access to his attack event cards as quickly (and as frequently) as possible, and getting them into play so Wolvie can hack n' slash!!! Pretty straightforward deck, yet some of the following cards and combos are noteworthy in their significance, so let's talk about a few . . .
- Mean Swing This card will serve you well on turns where you may not have attack event cards in your hand, and therefore wouldn't be exhausting his claws to pay for them using Wolverine's health. Exhaust his claws, and use this card to deal some decent damage! Cheap, and easy to play at 0 cost . . .
-
Moment of Triumph This card should speak for itself. Wolverine will typically be sucking up a lot of damage in most games, (especially if you are using his health to pay for his attack cards), so this card is incredibly valuable. Helps keep you in hero form as long as possible so you don't lose tempo, and also pairs well with both Skilled Strike and Mean Swing when used on most minions. And if that isn't enough, follow up with an attack event to guarantee that excess damage, and heal up!!! Careful play of this card, coupled with Wolverine's natural healing ability, will keep you in the fight for a long time . . .
-
Plan of Attack Helps you get those attack cards when you need them, thereby relying less on random card draw.
-
Clobber This card pairs so well with Wolverine, it's almost sickening. Finding a good niche for this card by which to maximize it's utility previously was challenging, but not anymore . . . Pay for it first with Wolverine's health, then bounce it back into your hand. Repeat a 2nd time doing the same, or use it to pay for a more suitable ATT event depending on the circumstances. INSANE value for Wolverine!!!
TIPS/STRATEGIES:
I recently played in a multiplayer game, (which we won), where I didn't exhaust Wolverine ONE SINGLE TIME to defend against enemy attacks. Once you get Endurance and Adamantium Skeleton on the table, Wolverine's natural healing ability (every player phase), coupled with his high HP, will generally allow you to do this consistently. Keeps you ready to slash away and keep dealing damage during the Hero phases. Consider "hard mulligans" to start the game with at least one of the above 2 cards, with Adamantium Skeleton being the priority.
Many of you will notice the absence of The Power of Aggression cards in here. If you look at the cost curve for AGG cards in this deck, you will see that they are simply not needed. The Basic double resource generators work just fine, and you'll generally be paying for the 3-cost attack cards with Wolvie's health anyways.
Lastly, you might try subbing in a few copies of Ready to Rumble for Plan of Attack if you feel more comfortable reverting back to alter-ego form more frequently. Try some different combos, and most importantly - have fun!!!
Enjoy,BUB!!!
