The goal of this deck is to execute the Protective Training + Game Time combo on the new Rogue ally. As Iceman and the protection aspect are generally weak to threat, this combination allows for significant thwarting potential. Nightcrawler and Shadowcat are other targets for the training due to their THW stat of 2.
Beyond this, Utopia works great with Iceman to give him extra triggers of the Freeze ability, or extra thwarting.
This deck is included in my series where I'm trying to beat every scenario in the Age of Apocalypse box using a different hero and a different aspect (even including 'Pool this time!). So while protection isn't probably the best choice for this scenario, my goal is to use it in one of the 5 scenarios, and Dark Beast has relatively less thwarting requirements than the others.
