Trying out Gamora with new prot cards from the nightcrawler pack. Rather than going for perfect defense triggers, the goal here is to spit out as much damage as possible during the villain phase to trigger Change of Fortune. No double resources here, we need that deck space for more events, and we've got Gamora's fantastic keen instincts to pay for them. The keens have 12 targets, while nerves of steel/defensive energy has 8. Playing attacks like first hit, powerful punch and our beloved cross counter during the villain phase not only give us the chance at a change of fortune, but also give us more thwarting per turn from Gamora's Finesse response, which can trigger once each phase. Our defense events have been chosen primarily to get even more damage in our villain phase, with both side step and powerful punch dealing damage, and getting us even more damage once Flow and Electrostatic are on the board. While the damage from powerful punch and side step are limited to the attacker, that isn't the case for Cross Counter and Precision damage! Cross Counter the villain, then use the damage from the event and Precision to finish off a minion before they get the chance to attack, AND draw more cards from Change of Fortune!
Prioritize getting Change of Fortune, the keens and your nerves in place asap! These engine cards will ensure you're able to play an event during both the villain phase and player phase in most turns, and will give you some big tempo boosts when Change of Fortune is triggered! Once those are in place, work towards getting flow, electrostatic and knowhere. Once knowhere is in play, starhawk can be easily looped to trigger knowhere draw on most turns, and his steady output will help keep the scenario under control while you deal with the villain. Use Come and Get Me, Bub! when there isn't a minion in play, but keep an eye on the encounter deck when you do. It's not always worth it to trade an acceleration icon for a tough and a bit of healing. Prioritize Jocasta when possible, getting an additional cross counter play off in each deck pass can make a big tempo difference! Rogue is very expensive, but she can provide big bursts of thwarting when needed, and you should have plenty of HP to fuel her with all the defensive events and healing options. Enjoy!

Oct 18, 2024I did! I couldn't find any red cards that really synced up with what i was trying to accomplish, and I've been doing well on threat so far between Rogue, Jocasta, Starhawk and gamora's kit, so I haven't felt the need to add thwart events yet. But. I've only played this in 2p so far, and threat wasn't really an issue for us, probably because we had more buffer to work with. I might change my mind when i try it in solo. I'd probably cut Energy Barrier and an Under Control for a pair of clear the areas, or maybe one clear and one crisis averted. Rogue does a lot of thwarting work though. And the defense events help gamora stay in hero to lower threat build up. |
Building around Change of Fortune is fun with Gamora. Did you consider using any other aspect card with her Skilled Tactician ability?
