Phoenix does not simply survive enemy attacks. She decides where they land.

This deck turns Protection into a form of battlefield control, using Jean Grey's PSIONIC trait to manipulate enemy attacks, redirect damage, stun threats, and punish anything foolish enough to come after her.

Come Get Me, Bub! helps set the battlefield. Pull a minion directly into play, remove threat, and gain Tough. Normally, inviting another enemy to the table would be a problem. For Phoenix, it gives her another piece to manipulate.

Psychic Misdirection is the centerpiece. When an enemy attacks Jean, redirect the entire attack into a different enemy. A massive villain attack can suddenly become your best source of damage against a troublesome minion — or vice versa.

When redirecting the attack isn't the right answer, Psi-Flail Strike rewards Phoenix for defending normally with 3 damage and a stun. Side Step provides another layer of damage prevention without requiring Jean to exhaust, giving you flexibility over exactly how you want to handle each attack.

The result is a defensive engine with several answers:

Redirect it. Prevent it. Defend it. Punish it.

The Power of the Mind keeps that engine affordable. With PSIONIC cards spread throughout both Phoenix's signature kit and the Protection package, it frequently functions as a double resource exactly where you need it.

The allies continue the psychic theme while providing flexible support. Karma, Legion, Professor X and White Queen reinforce the mental warfare side of the deck, while Cyclops keeps Jean connected to the X-Men and the rest of the team provides additional control.

Phoenix already brings excellent thwarting through her natural kit, so Protection does not need to turn her into a passive defender. Instead, it gives her something much nastier: control over the villain's own offense.

Come and get her. Just don't assume you're the one she'll let you hit.
