Hi welcome to the thirty seventh in a series of decks I plan to build directly influenced by the amazing Get Up and Game! Perfect Match-Up series found here: https://youtu.be/1I2q3sT6FoA Please check out the channel and the video since I thought it was an amazing gift to the community and it inspired me to start playing Champions more regularly.
My goal with this series is to create a unique deck inspired by each challenge match-up in the video using all the suggested cards plus some of my own to create a deck that any player can use to check out the challenge. If you’re missing some cards from a deck please ask in the comments and I’ll do my best to find replacements from your collection so that you can have fun too! Hopefully I can build a deck that can beat the villain on both standard and expert. I’ll try to document any tweaks I made while playing the deck too.
Things are getting heated now as Ghost-Spider faces off against Thanos and the Infinity Gauntlet! She's perfect for this match up since she doesn't rely on stun and confuse and Thanos is immune. Ghost-Spider was able to defeat Thanos on Standard and twice on Expert including a game where she faced off against her nemesis the Lizard as well.
The deck is primarily designed to take advantage of Gwen's readying ability to do damage on both defense and offense while also taking advantage of her Web-Warrior synergies for additional benefits. Focus on getting George Stacy out as soon as possible since he'll be increasing your defensive options for the rest of the game. Your Web-Bracelets are also very helpful for playing your cards. Also try to get out Armored Vest since you'll be defending often and Thanos hits very hard. Then if you can, your other set up pieces include Helicarrier, Web of Life and Destiny, Electrostatic Armor, Flow Like Water and Unflappable.
Your strategy is simple. Start by getting rid of Sanctuary because until then you can't damage Thanos. Then its just a matter of defending against Thanos and using Defiance, Expert Defense and Powerful Punch along with Gwen's various events to pass through the villain phase unscathed and then spend another round taking down the villain. The Night Nurse will become your best friend to deal with stun and confuse from the infinity gems.
Your allies can be a big help to providing a boost when they enter and leave play. Silk can help protect you from Shadow of the Past and your obligation too! Hobie can get some incredible damage numbers in too since Thanos has plenty of Boost Icons on his cards.
All in all I found this to be an excellent match up. The most important thing is to take your time and keep control of the board state. Each main scheme takes 12 threat to pop so you can flip down when you need to heal or use alter ego abilities. At worst Thanos will snap and you'll lose half your deck. This happened to me in two out of the three games but as long as you keep a copy or two of Ghost Kick, this shouldn't be a big issue and George Stacy can hold onto these for you if you anticipate this happening. Good luck!
