Rogue and Bishop save the future
Deck summary
- Use Rogue to steal stats from allies who don't need the health, like Lockjaw, Nick Fury, Professor X, or minions under Karma's control.
- Put Protective Training on Rogue so she lasts longer, and can Game Time
- Bishop's healing from Bishop's Uniform makes him an emergency Rogue target
- Additional healing from Med Team and Render Medical Aid
The situation with Rogue
Rogue is an interesting card. At first it doesn't seem that good, because you damage the target of her ability, who is probably an ally that could just active on their own. The trick for making Rogue work is to find targets that do not care about that 1 damage.
Nick Fury and Professor X are going away at the end of the round anyway, so they don't care if they take 1 extra damage. Free stats! Lockjaw takes 2 consequential. So normally he gets 2 swings, and if rogue does a damaged to him, it's still 2 swings. If Karma steals a minion, it takes 2 consequential damage, so the extra rogue damage may not affect them! The idea with this deck was to find someone who's good at recurring Lockjaw and who has the resources to play and replay expensive allies. Bishop fits those categories!
Setting up
Really the priority is to get Rogue out first. Then you want Bishop's Uniform and Bishop's Rifle to do Bishop things with. You also want a Protective Training on Rogue so she lives longer and is a Game Time target for more uses of the improved stats.
The beginning/setup can be a little rough in this deck. With bad luck you could end up with a hand of all resources, and nothing to do with it, or a hand with no resources that can't afford to play the expensive allies. When setting up, it's good to remember that bishop can flip down to alter ego to grab his Bishop's Uniform or Bishop's Rifle if they get discarded. He can also grab a Stored Energy if you need the resources.
Another part of the setup is Lockjaw. But he doesn't need to be on the table, just in the discard. If our favorite dog is in the discard pile you have access to him any time you have resources to burn.
Game Time, Protective Training and Energy Conversion can be dead cards as well. If you get unlucky and draw just these, you have to hope there's something to burn the resources on, like Lockjaw, Randall/Malcolm or a villain attachment.
Other pieces
The X-Jet is there to help pay for expensive Rogue Karma and Lockjaw if you get it down first. Utopia is mostly for the ability to have 4 allies, so you can have Rogue, Lockjaw, Karma and her mind controlled minion out. EDIT: I was wrong about this! each ally has to be X-Men traited to get the 4 ally limit It can be annoying to have to discard an ally to make Karma work. The ready from Utopia is a nice little bonus for an extra Rogue swing. Don't forget Professor X's ability to ready an x-men character as well! Between those options and Game Time, you can have her activate 3-5 times in a turn!
Gambit can potentially get up to 3 (or even 4) atk/thw with a little luck! If you hit a good boost, he's a nice Protective Training and Game Time target as well!
Armor is here to be a blocker during setup, when bishop doesn't have healing set up yet. She can also trigger utopia late game.
Go forth and defeat villains!
My record for rogue stats with this deck is 6/7/6 when she touched an upgraded Sentinel Mark VIII that Karma stole! Let me know if you get higher! Hope you have fun with this deck.

Oct 23, 2024Super cool! Loving all the ally centric builds that Bishop opens up. |
Oct 23, 2024I like a good voltron deck, and in protection? The aspects really have been diversified lately, I just wonder if there is a way to make the traits she gains useful in any way, the best use I can think of rn is getting guardian/avenger in multiplayer |

Oct 24, 2024I love it! As you said it would really shine in a multiplayer set up where the other allies will be plentiful and if coordinated ahead of time can have great stats to gently borrow. |
Oct 25, 2024Uhm, you can put 4 allies out with Utopia only if all of them have the X-Men trait, so it won’t work with Lockjaw and Karma’s mind -controlled minion on the table. |

Great minds! I have a similar deck for Phoenix. Game Timing those beefy stats are so so nice. Makes sense to not run X-Mansion and focus on other healing since Bishop won't flip nearly as much as her. Great stuff!
