Return the Favor That's certainly a card. Not worth playing... usually.

Appearances can be deceiving

This deck looks to exploit some unique interactions with Nick Fury and Return the Favor.

I started thinking about Practiced Plan and Intelligence Analysis and realized that they make a good partner to combine Return the Favor with Nick Fury's Assault Suit Form.

Essentially, the goal is to have Practiced Plan down along with intelligence analysis and play return the favor. You can see what treachery you reveal, decide to cancel it with intelligence analysis and bounce it back to hand. Then fire off 3 threat from suit form to hit the villain for 8.

Bonus! If you have Secret Agent out you can move 2 threat to your suit and replace some of what you spent on RTF.

This is the Janky core of this deck. The rest essentially resolves around this combo.

NOTE: IN THE RULES FOR CANCEL IT SPECIFICALLY SAYS THAT CANCELED ENCOUNTER CARDS ARE STILL CONSIDERED TO BE REVEALED. SO EVEN IF YOU CANCEL THE TREACHERY RETURN THE FAVOR WILL FIRE OFF!

Black Widow ally is a nice back up plan. If you don't want to use intelligence analysis, or don't have it set up, she can at least cancel the worst treacheries coming off RTF.

Espionage, Taunt, Face the Past mean you will be drawing TONS of cards or filtering through a bunch! It helps get you set up and Taunt doubles as a way to get threat out there.

Espionage will trigger secdret agent, and is another Practiced Plan target.

Taunt does several things. 1) Nick wants something to thwart, In stealth you can help make that happen. You can even combo with eyepatch and secret agent and practiced plan to have LESS threat on the main than you started with and gain 3 cards for the trouble.

Specialized Training Lets you boost up your thwarting and more card draw. Melinda May can help you see what boost you will get from taunt the villain phase or if there's a treachery on top to RTF into.

Agent 13 can ready your Helicarrier. She’s one that you can easily swap out for an ally of your favorite flavor or drop entirely if you want to go to 40 cards.

Now some Cards people might Question:

Grant Ward - You might be asking. Hey, if we are using Return the Favor to fetch treacheries, why have Grant Ward who can betray you if there's a treachery revealed? Well, first of all, it's thematic and fun, but second you can pay with your excess mental if you want to keep him around and worst case you take 2 damage and now thin your deck. With Grant, and other cards that leave play combined with all the card filtering you will be going through the deck a decent clip and get a nice cycle of the combo pieces.

Feel Free to skip on Grant or Agent 13 and mix up any of the other allies. If you are playing alongside a Maria Hill Hero, Add in the team-up Super Spies. You can even add Jenna Simmons to help get any Tech preps that pop to hand from Practiced Plan back on the table.

Lastly, Enhanced Awareness. This bad boy in a modern deck?! What's up with that!?

Well, first off, Fury's Watch lets you play enhanced awareness for 2 threat and you can still use EA if you want. It's kinda like the classic play of using a Web Shooter to play a second Web Shooter. But, if it's not apparent, having mentals sitting on the table lets you trigger Black Widow and Grant when you want, but also helps you bank resources for the turns you will want more. It's surprisingly useful in the deck and makes sure you always have an out for those cards that require a mental without having to worry too much about what's in your hand.

I like to stay in stealth quite a bit with this deck, pop out to use his attacks and end a turn with Covert Surveillance or Concentrated Fire to go back into stealth.

Nick's a super spy using the Villain's own cards against them. Treacheries turn into 8 damage, Attack activations become more threat for Fury to remove and put onto his suit!

Before you know it the Villain will be putting their own eye out trying to hit you!

you'll Shoot your Eye Out!

Love this. Sort of want to combine this deck and the one I posted together now. Nick is great in Protection!

@Castlefrank47 Thanks! Always looking for ways to use under-appreciated cards.

@teamcanadahockey2002 Have at it! That combined deck might be better than this one. :D

Well, I’m ready to return the favor…when I get my hands on the box! Love to see RTF getting some love, and all of the preparations too!

'you'll shoot your eye out, kid!'

I always love decks which take use of underused cards. This looks brilliant. I'm quite surprised of seeing so much Protection builds for Nick fury here. I've just testing him in Justice, and I was quite convinced that it was his best aspect, but some of the decks seen here... are making me doubt !

@wehehe Nick runs repurpose well and he does like readies which protection brings to the table. Taunt is certainly exploitable for him as well.

BUT, I think you aren’t wrong Justice Nick is going to Prove super strong too!

Leadership has a lot going for it. I saw some cool ones posted already and I know a lot of people are excited for aggression and the synergies he has there.

No doubt about it, Nick has a lot of different hooks and directions he could go and o can wait to see what everyone cooks up and try all the different ideas people share out!

Sure, I like some ideas here, but I fear that outside of justice, you could get some issues with threat and the "extra thwart" that Stealth identity implies. Probably I'll have to test it just to see how it works !

Also, we played the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. campaign with two players (Nick Justice, and Maria Hill Leadership). With the other player staying almost all the game in Alter Ego, I probably had to be more efficient at thwarting than I would have to be in a solo game.

This is a really awesome idea for a deck. Thanks for sharing!

When playing the campaign with 3 people, Nick, Maria, and Natasha, what changes would you make to avoid uniqueness issues or would that change the deck too much?

Mar 03, 2025 Dojireju2 · 1

I forgot new Maria is mandatory. Is the deck still pretty good without Black Widow ally?

Mar 03, 2025 VJakson · 1040

@Dojireju2 Hello. Yes, Black widow is just backup. You can totally do well without her. I’d definitely include the Super Spies team up card if playing with Maria Hero.

I’d say the only changes I’d make would be to shuffle around some allies. Find out if the Maria player is using any of the new shield allies and have some other options available. Rogue ally is never terrible. Starhawk of course is a classic protection ally. Whatever strikes your fancy.

Thank you for this deck. THIS type of creativity is exactly why I love this game so much. Thank you for sharing your creativity with us in order to play!!!

@Dojireju2 We have a house rule for when we're playing a pair of heroes that are also signature allies in each other's kits: we just replace the ally with the team up card. So when playing Nick and Maria, we take out the signature allies and put in Super Spies. Stays on theme and doesn't render one of your cards useless.

Mar 31, 2025 VJakson · 1040

@RegalGamesTV I enjoy that house rule, it makes it a lot less feels bad to have those heroes at the table together to not blank a card in each other’s decks.

Apr 05, 2025 Dougler · 20

let's say you have espionage and intelligence analysis on board. you reveal an encounter card with surge. can you activate espionage to draw 2, then change the encounter card with intelligence analysis?

Apr 05, 2025 RegalGamesTV · 44

@Dougler no, because Intelligence Analysis will trigger before Espionage has a chance to.

Intelligence is "when a treachery is revealed" meaning that card is beginning to resolve. Espionage is "when the Surge Keyword would be resolved" meaning the card has already started resolving (it's already been revealed).

This deck is a lot of fun! I recorded it against Taskmaster last night, but that video doesn't come out until August 29th LOL. I mentioned you a couple times and linked your deck!

@SoloMarvelChampion

That’s awesome! Thanks so much for checking it out. And I look forward to the video! I appreciate the heads up.
