This deck is very versatile, able to handle thwarting and damage at the same time. It also isn’t reliant on blocking with allies or stunning/confusing the villain, instead it aims to simply have enough overwhelming output each turn that the board is always under control.
The idea is to get Honey Badger out on the table and then pump her up with as many upgrades as possible and keep her alive. once she has 4+ health we can be using her to ready multiple times per turn.
Upgrades should be prioritized in this order:
1) Sidekick. This is the hardest to pull as it can only be done through using Suit Up with Honey Badger.
2) Defy Danger. Enabling Game Time early is important, as the extra ready for HB is also an extra ready for Laura.
3) Reinforced Suit. Health is more important than stat boosts for Gabby, because more health equals more readies for X-23.
4) Clarity of Purpose. This is great because it is a resources generator that doubles as a ready every turn. At this point it’s not unreasonable to have X-23 readying 3 times per turn, before playing any cards.
5) Inspired. At this point Honey Badger will be attacking or thwarting for 3, hopefully multiple times around.
6) Sidearm. The least important, but it’s nice to have an extra +1 atk and ranged can really come in handy for certain scenarios.
Mulligan hard for a Suit Up opening hand. X-23 is strong enough to be able to handle one or even two turns without building much, giving you time to set up Honey Badger.
While I have found this deck works well in solo play, as with many decks it is elevated in multiplayer. Usually there is a bit more time to set up, and stuns/confuses and other cards can be helpful that X-23 simply doesn’t have space for. For example, in multiplayer it’s helpful to have another player able to cancel or discard encounter cards to avoid her obligation.
I know it’s not necessarily an original idea, but X-23 sidekick was the deck that made me fall in love with Marvel Champions. I hope you enjoy my take on it.
