The Inspiration:
So that the Con of Heroes I pick up an alternate art version of Black Widow. So of course I needed an updated Black Widow deck.
Thanks Boomguy!
Black Widow is fun to play in alter-ego only but this alternate art version doesn't have Natasha playing poker. In fact the alter-ego image doesn't look like Natasha is having fun at all so it doesn't seem right to keep her in that form all game.
The Plan:
She does look like she is getting ready to take care of business though, so it seems appropriate to send equal time in both forms with the plan to flip back and forth between hero and alter-ego each turn.
One of the fun things I like to do with Black Widow is use Face the Past to grab Taskmaster and use Informant to have Taskmaster do most of your thwarting for you. (If you are interesting in learning more about that strategy you can check out this deck Taskmaster Redeemed.) But this doesn't work as well if you are flipping every turn. Luckily we just recently got the new card Invisibility Gear in the Black Panther hero pack that we can use to turn Taskmaster's attacks into schemes so we can use this strategy even when we are in hero form. (Also I've got to say I didn't ever expect to feature the card Invisibility Gear when I first read it.)
The Game Play:
Early game the focus is to:
- Get Informant in play/the discard pile and get Safe House #29 out to recure it.
- Get Leo Fitz into play first to grab Black Widow's Gauntlets and eventually to reliably grab an Invisibility Gear to have out for turns the begin in hero form.
Mid-game the goal is to:
- Get Taskmaster into play with Face the Past.
- Continue to build board state getting as many preparations, other upgrades, and supports into play as possible as possible both building your board state and thinning your deck.
Late game this deck should:
- Have huge hands through the Mission Prep ability, grabbing a preparation with Safe House #29, grabbing a tech with Leo Fitz, drawing a card with Avengers Mansion, and any cards you get with either Agent Coulson or Nick Fury.
- Have a ton of resources to pay for things due to Black Widow's Gauntlet, Jemma Simmons, and Helicarrier.
- Have big turns in hero form activating lots of preparations, using the Widowmaker ability multiple time, defending with Black Window and then readying with Synth-Suit when you active Informant after Taskmaster schemes due to Invisibility Gear.
- Be able prevent almost any bad thing that can happen with one of your preparations.
- Have a very thin deck allowing you to see the cards you want to finish of the villain (such as Dance of Death) often.
Looks fun!
