This deck easily beat Expert Thunderbolts, even though Magneto had 4 minion-centered cards (Wrapped in Metal and Magnetic Missile) that were never used. This deck is centered around Magneto flipping to Alter-Ego more often via Ready for a Fight and Practiced Plan to reuse Ready for a Fight. Ironically, the first time I played this deck I never drew Ready for a Fight, yet still won easily.
Here are your primary goals to set up this deck:
- Get Magneto's Cape in play as soon as possible. Possibly Magneto's best card, it makes him more flexible and gives him the Aerial trait to set up Ever Vigilant.
- Get Ready for a Fight and Practiced Plan down as soon as possible to enable constant flipping down and back up again. The more he is in alter ego, the more he can trigger all the amazing mutant supports. I didn't include Moira MacTaggert because I don't have her in my collection, but she would be a great addition. Also the flipping helps trigger Perseverance.
- The more cards you have in your hand, the less problematic Magneto's high cost curve and possible "dead cards" (depending on the situation) will be. Weapon X, Avengers Mansion and Cerebro all help with this.
I feel like Magneto can be frustrating when I am trying to lean heavily into an expensive strategy like playing a lot of allies on top of playing his expensive cards. This deck will enable him to use his cards more effectively, from Weapon X giving him more of his cards to Ready for a Fight facilitating him flipping down almost every turn, shuffling many cards back into his deck. It'll do great even without Ready for a Fight, but it'll be a nice use of that card.
I like to imagine for theme that Magneto is sipping his tea in alter ego, planning how he will best defeat the enemy so that he will be ready for the fight ahead. I hope you enjoy this deck as much as I did!

Jun 20, 2025cool. For me, the best part of these decks was have something to play these older heroes, whom I have not played in 2-3 years (as I was playing the x-men decks). I have a cap deck that I built but haven't published, that is also awesome. LMK which is your favorite. The new WS and F have some new protection cards and there's a White Widow that may work really well for the Black Widow deck. As I play more and more I see what works the best. I like playing a control type game and it takes a bit longer, but you have complete control and lots of cards on the board. E.g. I was able to beat Expert Magneto with this Cap deck. |
looks fun. You may draw Ready for a Fight more often with a 40 deck. I haven't gotten around to building the x-men but have been building a bunch of RFAF as I love this technique.
