Okay look, I know I’m not the first person to think of pairing Noble Sacrifice with Drax. But adding in Grant Ward brings it to a whole new level. He’s a great ally for Drax anyways, adding much needed cheap thwarting or Tough removals. But let’s face it, the man can’t be trusted. And having 3 hp can actually be a detriment because it takes too long for him to kills himself off.
Enter Noble Sacrifice and You Got This. Now you can get all the benefits of a 0 cost 2/2 ally with none of the deceitful drawbacks. Just pop him into play and get 2 of something useful, and then sac him for an extra 2 and a ready (and a card draw with Dwi Theet) or 3 health and a Tough. So good. But you know what’s even better? Bringing him back with Make the Call for 0 cost and doing it some more.
That’s pretty much the central conceit of the deck, and it works quite nicely and adds some much needed consistency to Drax in solo. But it’s not just Grant that can be sacrificed for fun and profit (though he’s the only one that actually deserves it).
Major Victory makes a nice target for Noble Sacrifice as you’ll also get a ready out of it. He doesn’t work so good for You Got This though.
Maria, Kaluu, and Ironheart will all fetch you a card before activating once and then being ditched for the sake of progress. After all Drax doesn’t need chump blockers so these guys gotta find a new line of work.
Blade can block a minion attack or two, or maybe even activate if conditions are favorable before donating his 3 health to Drax.
And Adam Warlock is one of my favorite reasons to play Drax in leadership since he can do his best Mantis impression and also heal Drax for 3. Though an extra 3 threat removal here and there is quite nice as well. Superpower Training makes a nice target for that as it’s there to be a second chance at getting out Dwi Theet as fast as possible.
Face the Past is a nice include since Drax can knock his nemesis out in one hit if he’s fully setup and the extra cards can get another ally or two out. Just remember you can’t attack the villain anymore so the timing can be tricky sometimes.
Clarity lets you play one more card a turn, just be sure to use it before you play Noble Sacrifice. Or better yet, use it TO pay for Noble Sacrifice. It can also be used as a mental to keep Grant around if a treachery pops out while he’s in play. Better to take 1 damage keeping them 2 and losing him.
Now before anyone says anything I know I should probably have Unshakable in here, but for whatever reason I never use it. I know, I know. It directly counters his obligation and just helps in general. So feel free to toss one in either at 41 or run one fewer Limitless Stamina.
I’ve been able to beat expert Juggernaut, Black Widow, and Dark Beast with this so far and it’s felt more consistent for solo to me than the average Drax protection deck. I suppose it could also make for a pretty good multiplayer damage dealer, but I wouldn’t know anything about that.
If you’re looking to blow the dust off Drax in these days of Flying Falcons and Winter Soldiers then check this out!

Jun 21, 2025Grant Ward is so good with the sacrifice cards also love to see someone else run face the past with Drax. Everytime I play him I end up running it. Looks really fun! |
Jun 21, 2025Looks great! I love sacrificial decks, and it makes a lot of sense here. I'm adding this to the list |
Looks solid! I've been working on something similar for Hulk. When I first saw Grant my first thought was "OMG, just like the douchebag from the show" but my SECOND thought was Noble Sacrifice LOL.
