When I saw Aggressive Conditioning I immediately thought of Wolverine. I already play endurance in almost all my Wolverine decks, and the extra attack Aggressive Conditioning brings makes it all the better. The goal of this deck is to build up Wolverines basic attack stat and deal massive damage. This deck is made for multiplayer with the assumption that someone else will defend for you and deal with most of the thwarting so you can go all in on minions & damage. I played this 2 hand with a Nightcrawler deck that I may post later as well. I ran Utopia and Team-Building Exercise on Nightcrawler to play allies during Wolverine’s turn to ready him even more.
Buffing Wolverine’s Attack stat
Using the following cards we buff our attack stat up significantly, maxing out at 8:
- [Adamantium Skeleton](/card/35004)
- [Aggressive Conditioning](/card/56013)
- [Combat Training](/card/01057)
- [Combat Specialist](/card/43034)
- 2 [Fluid Motion](/card/28016)
With Wolverine able to play attack events using health, I find it easy to take advantage of both copies of Fluid motion most turns. Clobber is a great opener to pay for with claws because you’re able to use Wolverines claws to have essentially a 0 effective cost attack that also triggers fluid motion. Hand Cannon Will give his basic overkill so none of that big damage goes to waste.
When to Spoil
Spoiling for a Fight becomes most worth it once you have both Hall of Heroes & Blood Rage up, that way you’re net gaining 1 card by defeating a minion you summon. I wouldn’t summon one if you already have a minion you can defeat with a basic attack, unless you’re planning to keep a minion around.
Spoiling For a Fight is also great for the final push against the villain. During my 2 handed game with Nightcrawler against Captain America, I played spoiling twice, just ignoring the minions I summoned to take giant swings at Cap and did over 40 damage in a single turn
Adjusting for player count
At higher player counts, if you can get your thwarter to bring Specialized Training I’d drop your copy of Looking for Trouble, then replace those 2 slots with more attack events, like Full-Body Charge. No Quarter is also good to have as a 2nd attack to play after you’ve used the claws to pay for another since we have so many aggression cards. For single player you can run this similarly by adding cheap X-Men allies and readying with Utopia, then chump blocking to protect health. You can also run Smash the Problem to help with thwarting as well.
