My continuing quest to buy as many Marvel Champions products as I can before they become impossible to buy at reasonable prices has brought me to Ironheart. Not since Doctor Strange have I played a Hero that just made me feel like I was trivializing the game to this degree. I believe Boomguy said it best: "This is the set where the game nearly lost its battle with Power Creep."
I beat Klaw in all 3 Villain Stages with this deck that's only barely changed from her original deck. I mean, I'd be insane not to use Moon Girl and Champions Mobile Bunker when they synergize so well with her, right? But other than those two and Spider-Man, I'm mostly just using the great cards in her Pre-Con: Vivian, Ingenuity, Go All Out and Push Ahead. Those are all great cards, with the last two being particularly busted with Ironheart, Version 3's insane statline.
Version 3 is the most powerful Hero I own. Sure, Version 1 is hurt by that hand size a little bit, but Photon Beam and Fly Over are strong enough that you'll be getting Progress Counters before you know it. I think Version 2 is actually good enough to win some games anyway, but Version 3 is truly insane: 3 Thwart, 3 Defense, 6 Hand Size, one of the best tribal traits in the game in Champion, and oh yeah, an infinite supply of 2 damage tokens that aren't attacks or actions. Cool.
Not good enough for you? Photon Blasters and Propulsion Jets just let you use Attack and Thwart for 3 every turn before you exhaust her. Still not good enough? Cool, how about New and Improved showing up to give you a free ready, a free Tough, and a free Scry for any of those cards that just give you Progress Counters that do extra damage? And if you think "Oh I won't get those cards every turn," guess again because you've got Tony Stark A.I. and that Champions Bunker, and oh yeah, a Moon Girl that's reliably drawing you 3 cards due to all the mental resources in this deck. I mean, at that point, who cares that you have a card that lets you look at the villain deck's top card for 0 cost? What's beating you?
Folks, I threw Voltron Iron Man in here just to fill to 40, and I didn't even play him. Ironheart is just that strong. I'm looking forward to seeing how far her inherit power can push this kind of jank, average deck against Ronan, who I assume might be able to bulldoze her with raw power before she Levels Up and gets the game into a state where I just can't lose.
So, did I have fun?
Yeah, but I don't know how long that'll last.
I agree that Riri feels a little too strong. But all things in moderation, right? And if a hero isn’t for you, they still might come with fun aspect cards ;)
Thanks for the shoutout!
