Ever since Vision came out, I've been wanting to build a deck that revolves around the new Meditation cards and this is the result of testing:
For the Lord Of The Rings Fans, this your Treebeard build.
The oldest Ent in Middle Earth who has survived due to his epic Mediation prowess and has now crossed over into the Marvel Universe.
Why does this build work?
Two weakness of Meditation:
- Requires Alter-Ego to use
- Requires you to Exhaust your Alter-Ego
In order to overcome those two weaknesses we need the following:
- A hero who benefits significantly from being Alter-Ego.
- A way to manage threat.
- Powerful Hero Event based cards.
- A way to ready (can use C.I.T.T).
EDIT - Try Swapping Deft Focus in for Flora and Fauna (forgot about this card in deck building but is super important) Thanks to commenters below :)
Justice Groot aka Treebeard is the answer and checks those boxes.
Because of Meditation, you can afford significantly more high cost cards that would otherwise be too expensive to include in a deck like this.
This means you can build an extremely powerful engine in which you sit in Alter-Ego collecting growth tokens while Beat Cops manage threat until you're ready to flip.
The allies also help compliment this strategy:
Gamora can help you find more events, Wraith can help manage boosts, Rocket can help you manage guard minions and Jack Flag can beef up thwarting with the option to use grenades on minions or Tough status removal.
That way when Groot flips - its MAJOR damage and/or MAJOR threat removal.
Super fun to play in solo and multiplayer. Shouldn't have much trouble taking down most expert villains.
Enjoy!

Jan 26, 2022Deft Focus is a must in any Groot deck. Especially one that prioritizes Growth Counters. I understand why you went with "Think Fast!" for the low cost, but it also takes away a Growth Counter. If you switch it out with Concussive Blow, CB has synergy with Meditation. Flora and Fauna is really tough to pull off solo unless you have Rocket Raccoon wait for it to come out. I agree with stilonxy on switching out some Beat Cops for Counterintelligence. |

IMO you're better off with Counterintelligence, you can pay for Agent Coulson with Meditation to get it into your hands and not even care about switching to hero this turn. There was a deck revolving around this, quite powerful, from Nocturnal Animal. Found the link: |

Jan 26, 2022Cool idea JRise! Fun thematic lotr thing going on here. It's not about this deck, but wanted to share a thought to My vote: I think Shehulk gets a huge boost here because you can always put Hellcat back in your hand to play again and she benefits from flipping regularly too. |

It's less sitting in AE and more flipping back and forth in my experience. The other thing I've found helpful is to hold a Meditation card in hand if you get unlucky with a draw, but know a 3+ cost card is likely to be pulled next turn. Plus - it shouldn't be overlooked that Beat Cops can be extremely helpful in dealing with big minions so you're not wasting Groot Stomps + I.AM.GROOT on them.

I might also switch out CITT for Ready to Rumble. Groot has a tough time generating resources. Especially since Lashing Vines can ready him for 2 Growth Counters instead. I totally get the want to keep Growth Counters, but I think Groot wants his cards/resources just as much. |
Jan 27, 2022Thanks for all the suggestions friends. Just updated the deck with most of the changes. Tested it and absolutely destroyed Mutagen Formula Expert. Link here: marvelcdb.com

Been following the thread here too. About She-Hulk, I first tried Meditation with justice the very day I got Vision. It was okay, but not stellar. So, a few pointers if you're headed that way: of course you want Sonic Rifle for the confuse, but I found that exhausting to meditate then flipping to hero form leaves a lot to be desired; She-Hulk just needs to attack (namely to benefit from One-Two Punch / Superhuman Strength), else you're getting nowhere. I just went back to it with leadership (to get Hellcat with Call for Aid, pay her cheap with Sneak Attack and return her to my hand so no "discard at the end of the phase"). Same here: exhauting in AE is painful... Ready to Rumble might be a good solution, I will definitly try it when I get some time. Just my two cents! |

sry I meant to add: timing also seems to be the key, as in don't use Meditation when you're going into hero form, but when you revert to AE, if possible. |
Jan 27, 2022I think Adam Warlock gains the most from each Meditation he uses. He doesn't need his Hero exhaust to function. Only problem is that you can only get one copy of Meditation. Scarlet Witch would also gain a lot from Meditation. You don't have to use hero power to thwart because of Hex Bolt. It'd be great to see a deck with 3 copies of Meditation and 3 copies of Spirtual Meditation. Haha. Of course, once you get Doctor Strange's Cape, he also would benefit from it as well. But forget him, he doesn't need more cards! ;) |

Oct 15, 2022beat expert zola thx |
Neat idea, I've also been curious on which hero would benefit the most of Meditation. Have you tried this vs an expert encounter with high threat pressure? I'm a bit concerned that Beat Cop won't be enough to fend off let's say expert Green Goblin who starts the fight with 2 encounter cards in your face. Have you tried Counterintelligence for example to alleviate some pressure?
