Drax can go infinite.
Is this deck good? Not really. Fun? Depends on what your definition of fun is. Interesting? Sure! Let's go with that.
Intro
You might have seen the Starlord deck from dr00 (https://marvelcdb.com/decklist/view/13649/a-suit-of-armor-around-the-galaxy-1.0) using Iron Man, Guardians of the Galaxy, and loads of upgrades to thin the deck. I was wondering if this could be useful on other Guardians, such as Gamora that have quite strong hero cards. But, turns out it is better for Drax.
First thing is, although the setup is not super slow, I don't think there is any way this will work in solo. The villain will just attack / scheme before you can get everything in place. It needs another deck (probably Justice) to keep everything under control. Adding confuse also helps, as it can allow Drax to go to alter-ego and get a few extra cards. Drax can help control a bit though, particularly with minions.
The Combo - To Infinity!
Basically you have to thin out your deck almost completely. Make Iron Man a guardian with Honorary Guardian, play Guardians of the Galaxy, then every upgrade is free and lets you draw a card.
Eventually this can leave you with 13 cards not on the field: the 10 Drax events, 2 resources, and Nick Fury. It is a bit tricky to say exactly how to start the combo, but you basically need to draw through all your remaining cards. I think you need to already have 3 vengeance counters too. To start with you have a use of DWI Theet Mastery by attacking and Avengers Mansion. Then, keep going with some combination of Nick Fury, Gamora (if Nick Fury is not in the deck), "Fight Me, Coward!", DWI Theet Mastery and Drax's response.
The combo involves repeatedly using "Fight Me, Coward!". You should be able to end up with only a 3 or so cards left between the deck and discard pile, then you can start if you have "Fight Me, Coward!" and Parry in hand. I list playing Knife Leap here - but this is only to stop you having 0 cards in both the deck and discard pile (which I think loses you the game...). If you don't have that just overpay and discard a card when playing "Fight Me, Coward!". If there are cards left in the discard pile, don't play Parry or Knife Leap the first time around.
- Attack, draw 1 from DWI Theet Mastery. Play Knife Leap.
- Play "Fight Me, Coward!", draw 1.
- On damage, play Parry [After this point I think both Parry and "Fight Me, Coward!" will be in the discard pile].
- Use Drax's hero response to draw the last card from the deck. Reshuffle the 3 cards into the deck.
Then, you have the other copies in hand to start again.
When playing Nick Fury pay using Clarity of Purpose and Helicarrier, so you only have to put 1 card into the discard pile.
Card Choices
- Energy and Strength are kinda needed to pay for some supports.
- If playing in 2 player could add a 2nd copy of Guardians of the Galaxy to draw it sooner. To get the 2nd copy out of the way can play it under the other player's control.
- 2 Clarity of Purpose. One goes on Drax, useful for playing more upgrades/support. One for Iron Man, just because it is a free upgrade.
- 2nd copies of Comms Implant and Reinforced Suit are for Mantis. It helps to keep Drax alive.
- 3 Honorary Guardian is for deck thinning. You can play it on allies that are already Guardians for a free draw once you have Guardians of the Galaxy out (and after playing one on Iron Man).
- Endurance helps you to stay alive.
- Knowhere occasionally gets an extra card. Useful to have the extra space for an ally.
I did manage to pull this off against expert Klaw and am going to try against some other scenarios soon. I hadn't seen any actually infinite loops before, so thought this was worth posting!
