Welcome to the second deck of my Heroic Roulette challenge for the Next Evolution box, where I tune decks to win specific scenarios on heroic difficulty. You can read more about the stipulations of the challenge and see my first deck here:
Round 1: Domino 'Pool vs. Morlock Seige
Matchup
While it's the second deck I'm posting, this was the last matchup I played of the 5 in the Next Evolution box. Cable loves Justice, and that would be the ideal pairing for him, but I already used Justice with Psylocke to defeat Stryfe. Aggression was the leftover aspect, and it is an ok pairing with On The Run due to all the minions you will encounter.
Gameplan
Like Morlock Siege, we have to build a deck ready for any of the 7 villains as it's against the spirit of the challenge to simply replay until you randomly draw the weakest villain. The villains are steady in this scenario, which means we should up the ally count to block a lot. Playing Cable, a lot of deck slots are already accounted for by Player Side Schemes and Psionic cards, so this is more of a "good cards" deck than an focused strategy deck.
Make sure you are ready for defeating the first villain stage and flipping Hope's Captor, since a tough minion will be spawned from Main Scheme 2a.
Card Choices
Psylocke, Professor X, 3x Psychic Assault - Despite the steady villain, I found the confuse to still be necessary to win. The main scheme thresholds for this scenario are pretty low at 8 and then 9 (but 2 threat added step 1). Luckily the encounter deck has no extra scheme cards besides the 2x Advance.
X-Bunker - Insane card for Cable. Part of the reason I like confusing so much is that I can flip to alter-ego to use this every turn cycle.
Call for Backup - This was my setup PSS in my two wins. Both times I got Wolverine to help defeat the setup minion. Psylocke is another great grab.
Specialized Training - This is another reasonable setup PSS if your hand is equipped to answer it turn one while also handling your setup minion. My preferred Specialization is the +1 THW one since Cable will be thwarting almost every turn.
Games Review: 2 wins, 2 losses
Loss - Arclight
Win - Vertigo
Vertigo is important to confuse due to her 3 THW but easy to take attacks from since she has 1 ATK and you can choose to stun Wolverine instead of giving the +2 ATK bonus.
Loss - Harpoon
Favored Weapon is basically unbeatable with this deck without Sunfire, who I didn't draw in my two-turn window before I died.
Win - Riptide
I lucked into discarding past both Advances early in the game, so I had many comfortable flips to Alter-Ego form even without confusing the villain. I had Bunker and Professor out early, so that let me generate tons of value and coast to victory.
Conclusion
Like I said, not the best aspect pairing for Cable, but still plenty capable of winning this scenario on heroic. Next up will be Deadpool Protection vs. Juggernaut, a very unique matchup! Thanks for reading.
