Everyone loves a Snowball fight right?!
Bobby is bring the defense wins (Snowball Fight) championships mentality.
We've seen how great Ready for a Fight is for some heroes but Iceboy here really likes it also. He can struggle with thwart especially if he doesn't have access to Chill Out!. RFAF helps remedy that issue and also power Cryokinetic Perception.
His AE ability lets him shuffle as many ice cards into his deck from discard as he has Frostbite in play. This allows you to loop Chill out back in as well as his Ice attack events or even Snow Clone. By shuffling ice cards back in, we also increase the chances of Cryo hitting an ice card allowing us to ready.
Setup:
To get setup we want to boost up Bobby''s defense with
Armored Vest and Defense Specialist.
Cryo gives him that ability to potentially ready when we defend.
Unflappable lets us draw a card when we defend and take no damage
Power Belt gives +3 hit points and generates a resource for an ice card
Deft Focus makes the next superpower card we play 1 resource cheaper
Moira MacTaggert lets us draw a card when we flip from AE to hero.
Team-Building Exercise reduces the cost of a card that shares a trait with Iceman
The X-Jet generates a resource which makes paying for RFAF easier
Utopia provides a ready when an X-Men character enters play.
Fight Plan:
The idea here is to let Iceman defend as often as possible triggering Cryo to hopefully ready off drawing an ice card but if not readying from Indomitable. We also want to flip semi regularly to shuffle ice cards back in and use RFAF to avoid the scheme of the villain.
Once set up with Cryo, Moira, Def Specialist and unflappable we can typically have a 10 card hand starting our turn while most likely be readied.
Flipping down with 2-3 frostbites on the bad guy means that all we have to worry about is the boost card. For scenarios with big boost icons we have Northstar who can negate the boost as well.
Judoka Skill can also help especially early game to ensure we hit our perfect defense and not needing to rely on a defense event. It's also a resource which can pay for RFAF
Synch can also be exhausted to jump our defense up to 5.
Let's say we have 2 frostbites on the villain dropping their attack to 1 and flip down to AE. Trigger RFAF to let the villain attack us, draw from Moira to give us 7 cards in hand.
We're defending for 4 at this point so even a 3 boost would still net no damage. Draw from Cryo which can be a ready if we draw an ice card, draw from defense specialist and then from unflappable.
If we are fully set up with our resource generators and team building, we would have a 10 card hand along with 4 resource generators. This allows us to play multiple ice events stacking up frostbites again and play allies to ready Iceman from Utopia to attack adding more frostbites.
The allies here are mostly to trigger easy utopia readies and also help with threat management. Beak can provide some really nice burst thwart with multiple allies in play.
Professor X can provide a safe flip if we don't have access to RFAF.
Overall this deck has been a ton of fun and really strong. Once set up, you're almost never going to take damage and with the consistent access to his thwart event, threat has not been an issue.
Other Considerations:
I had another iteration that focused on Ice Slide and Ever Vigilant and using RFAF to shuffle Ice Slide back in but it proved too inconsistent in testing.
Rogue can really help with thwart/ damage but she also feels like someone you want to keep around indefinitely and there was too much investment taking away from the focus of the deck.
What Doesn't Kill Me is great for the readies but once i took it out i wasn't missing it with the readies from Utopia and indom.
I would love to hear any feedback or experiences with this deck!

May 11, 2025Thanks for checking it out! The x-men really like it since so many have AE abilities that can be worthwhile plus Moira. Colossus has been my favorite hero to run RFAF with so far. The card draw is insane for him. Magik is on my list strictly to recur shield spell. Deadpool was on my list glad to hear it worked well! |
May 11, 2025Just tried it out two-handed with Shuri Leadership vs Unus and had a blast! I got a little unlucky and took a few rounds to set up, but once I did, I was swimming in cards. I think I'll trim an ally or two for some Defensive Training to help keep those Ready for a Fight cards in circulation. |
May 11, 2025Cancel that last thought. I keep thinking of RFAF as an event, but it's an upgrade, so it won't work with Defensive Training. |

I've been wanting to try RFAF with some X-men to get more draw from Moira. Iceman seems like a great candidate since flipping for his AE ability is so good.
So far, I've only run it on Deadpool, pretty great for him too
