My four year old daughter knows the answer. Captain America says 2 things
- "I don't like bullies."
- "I can do this all day"
With the introduction of the eponymous card, I decided to make a perfect protection deck with Cap. This deck provides multiple defenses every Villain phase, with ping damage/thwart to assist with board control. Geared towards multiplayer "Defend for the Table" style, it can be modified for solo play.
We All Know
- Cap's base defense of 2 is increased to 5 with Captain America's Shield, Armored Vest, and Defensive Conditioning.
- Defending reliably reflects 2 damage (Captain America's Shield and Electrostatic Armor) with a 3rd point of retaliate being conditional (Dauntless).
- while retaliate is usually a pretty slow way to do damage, this can start to add up if you're defending multiple times.
- to that end, we have I've included three copies of Desperate Defense, "I Can Do This All Day", and Indomitable. Additionally, his two copies of Shield Block can let him "defend" his own attack without exhausting.
- Hard to Ignore and Unflappable give some bonus thwart and card draw when you defend without taking damage (which usually happens at least once).
- for when you do take damage, Angel's Aerie can usually full heal with a trip to AE.
- unless you're competing for minion kills, you can leave one at low health and use one of your defends can trigger Change of Fortune and draw two more cards.
- Nerves of Steel, Super-Soldier Serum, and Quincarrier can all be used to play for defense events, and using Flow Like Water to ping damage where it's needed (Tough begone)
- if playing this deck solo, probably should drop 3x Indomitable and add some extra threat removal (Daredevil, Not Today!). Also Get Behind Me! is (ironically) great for this deck in solo, because you can more easily deal with another attack than some treacheries. You just have to get behind... yourself?
Playing perfect defense Cap is such a great way to play him. Really happy to see flow like water in here! Good stuff!
