I want to give credit to player marctimmins89 whose deck inspired mine:

There has been an incredible amount of SHIELD decks around since Sinister Motives and yet, I can't believe I overlooked the chance to try it out with Iron Man! Indeed he's the perfect candidate:

  • at the start of the game, he's really in need of AE time to build his suit. Thanks SHIELD and Homeland Intervention for keeping watch!

  • He's got his 'futurist' ability to dig for useful cards, making him a 7 card AE;

  • He doesn't need to stay ready because he won't flip to hero for a while... might as well put costly stuff in play using Meditation!

  • In AE he's got the 'Genius' trait, perfect for Ingenuity.

I usually keep things under control using SHIELD allies, build a crazy board full of various supports plus my own armor, and flip when I've got it all into play. From there, get AERIAL with Ingenuity, destroy the villain with Supersonic Punches and my Iron Man upgrades.

I don't think it's ever been this easy to keep the pressure off Tony Stark, he can now take his sweet time building his suit!

Nice deck! Definitely improves on my version. Ingenuity is perfect for Tony, and Meditation is ideal for this style of deck. I don't have Vision's pack, so can't make use of it unfortunately. I really like the imagery of Tony sitting at home meditating, while SHIELD works overtime. Then, he busts out of Stark Tower with the suit assembled, gauntlets blazing and finishes the job on the villain (and then expects everyone to thank him for it). Perfect. What's your thinking in including 2 X The Power in All of Us instead of The Power of Justice?

@Marctimmins89 Thanks a lot! You got me playing Iron man for the first time in a looong time!

I usually use The Power in All of Us when I get lots of 3 or 4 costed basics, and also because it helps paying resource- producing cards, providing some form of "ramp" to your deck. It is the case here (Nick Fury, Agent 13, Avengers Mansion,Mockingbird, Sky-Destroyer, [Helicarrier](/card/10024 Government Liaison, Ingenuity).

Meanhwhile, justice cards are less costly and will benefit from discounts from Government Liaison, Ingenuity or Helicarrier. I can also put Monica Chang or Agent Coulson in play with Meditation, and call me cheap but I don't ever pay for Surveillance Team, letting Chang do it for me! Under Surveillance is meant to be paid once as I clear threaths every turn so, really, I feel like The Power of Justice doesn't play as big a role as The Power in All of Us.

You would not be able to use ingenuity with rocket boots right? Tony would have to be in AE to activate ingenuity and can only activate rocket boots in hero mode. Other than that this seems like a sweet way to run Iron Man. Just wish there was a more reliable way to get aerial.

@Penguinclaptrap

The way I see it is you have to be a genius to put Ingenuity on the board, but not necessarily to exhaust it afterwards. The rule reads:

"Playing a card involves paying the card’s cost and placing the card in the play area. This causes the card to enter play (or, in the case of an event card, to resolve its ability and be placed in the discard pile). Cards are played from a player’s hand."

it doesn't seem to have any impact on the use of Ingenuity after you've put it in play and it does not specify "Alter Ego" either. But hey! I've been wrong before. If anyone has a better answer, please tell!

Neo's interpretation is correct. You need the Genius trait to play it from hand. After that you can use it whenever you like. If it were restricted by form it'd have "Hero action>" or "Alter Ego Action".

The first deck with Iron Man I enjoyed. It needs some time to stay in alter ego but with these cards, it's not a problem. After change to hero, Iron Man rocks

This was such a fun take on Iron Man. Wild to just sit in AE for so long and then flip and wreck shop!
