A Vision deck where Vision controls the board while his allies (6 allies once built out) are used as batteries for Strength In Numbers and occasionally "repurposed" with Noble Sacrifice

The Matrix Reloaded

morpheus-battery-matrix.jpg

Vision is the best synthezoid around and can manage the board, but he still needs energy to run. So he takes a page from the Matrix and turns his human allies into batteries that live and die to draw him cards and heal him. Instead of using them to attack and thwart, we exhaust them all (and sometimes discard them) to fuel and maintain the Vision machine.

  • first priority is to get 2-3 allies down on the board. Don't block with them if you can help it... they're our source of wealth and strength.
  • Avengers Tower and The Triskelion are next priorities to boost our ally count up to 5
  • beware of Vivian. She's a powerful ally (and some Vision decks center around her), but she turns off the +1 ally from Avengers Tower. I usually played her in the first deck pass, then rarely ever again.
  • the core ally group for me was Blade and Stinger (who doesn't count toward the 5, bringing total allies up to 6). The rest come and go.
  • next priority is to keep playing out allies, but also to thin the deck by playing great support card and resource generators. Band Together should help.
  • Avengers allies are great, but most of these you want to play rather than keep. Make sure to use Noble Sacrifice to put White Tiger and Squirrel Girl and Captain America back in your discard pile before the deck pass.
  • Lastly, you play Strength In Numbers every turn to draw another whole hand of cards, then use Vision's flexible events to close out the game
  • After you use Strength In Numbers (do this first), you'll have 12 total cards in hand = 5 from hand size, 6 from Numbers, 1 from the Mansion. After you play any events, you can flip form and play the others (drawing an extra card if that flip is Intangible to Dense)
  • I usually flip mass form every turn. Flipping to intangible means I can ignore minions for a turn (and the villain's attack being reduced by 2 is like a free defense). Plus there are some events that can only be played in Intangible form. Same for Dense form, but swapping back draws you an extra card.
  • rarely needed to flip down to Alter-Ego (because the healing/tough from Noble Sacrifice usually sustains), but might need to in order to clear obligations, or for an emergency heal in hard-hitting scenarios. Vision can confuse with Phase Disruption (even if he doesn't discard an attachment). Against steady/stalwart, you can usually survive one scheme activation (if you are managing the main and aware of extra activations)

And that's the deck. Hope you have fun playing around with it! Let me know if you have thoughts, ideas, or questions. I plan to continue to name future decks after cards from one of my other favorite tabletop games, Spirit Island.

Love seeing more new Vision decks. He still has interesting builds years after release. Great hero!

and of course @boomguy is the first to comment. Vision isn't one of my favorites, but he works here for two important reasons

  1. He's an Avenger
  2. He has the thwarting/damage events to manage the game

I tried this archetype with Scarlet Witch first, but she couldn't manage the thwart on her own (even playing 3x Hex Bolt in a turn, you couldn't control or predict how much threat removal you see). Neither could she withstand the Villain's attacks as well as Vision.

Also, I posted this deck like 15 minutes ago... do you have a macro set up to notify you if anyone posts a Vision deck @boomguy?
