Todaybor Day is Labor Day!
When deckbuilding for Hercules, my top priority has been to give him tools to consistently complete his Labors:
- Deal 12+ damage in a turn or two
- Remove 7+ threat in a turn or two
- Get at least 1 extra ally out for you to defend in case Amadeus Cho gets defeated (which pretty easily happens if there are minions or the villain gets a second attack on you)
And what I realized I love about this is, it's basically a microcosm of deckbuilding in general! I should always be focused on providing heroes tools to do these, Hercules just has this extra incentive to have a well-rounded deck.
Anyhoo, back to this deck:
- Several thwart events. I've had no trouble clearing side schemes quickly and keeping the main scheme threat low with this deck. Infiltration has so much value for Herc. He typically can easily take care of the minion that might come out, and might even benefit from it with Prince of Power.
- Lots of card draw with OWOA, Skilled Investigator, Nick, and Mansion. The cards in Herc's kit are super strong, especially once you have a gift or two (or three!). Drawing into The Gift of Battle or Wisdom of Athena with 3 gifts out feels so good.
- Chance Encounters to help you consistently get allies out.
- Machine Man. Good resource sink for Olympus.
- Grant Ward can't defend, but who cares, you'll defend for him. And if you don't have the mental or don't want to spend it the 2 damage really doesn't impact you (you can get up to 21 max hit points and you have built in healing)
- I've found he doesn't really need extra attack to handle Defeat the Hydra but Turn the Tide or Waylay might be some good options to swap in if that's a concern.
