Because you know you want those juicy 1 cost 13 damage repulsor blasts!
Concept This deck is centered around setting up very quickly then going to town on the villain with Repulsor Blasts.
This deck has beaten Rise of Red skull on expert solo. I haven't tried on heroic yet, but I predict it may have issues with Zola/Red Skull due to having weak turn 1/2 thwart/damage. This is likely not an "extremely strong" deck, but it is capable and viable for all Expert difficulty scenarios.
Protection Protection aspect is chosen due to having two tech upgrades, one of which being super cheap - Electrostatic Armor (although not very useful) and the other being extremely efficient- Energy Barrier. The rest of the protection cards are mainly filler to improve Repulsor Blast damage. Aggression and Justice have no tech upgrades, slowing down the deck too much. Leadership's tech upgrades must be played on allies, once again slowing down the deck.
Mulligan Try to mulligan for either a 3 tech upgrade or a Multiple Man plus 1 tech upgrade turn 1. Unlike regular Iron Man builds, Powered Gauntlets, Stark Tower are too slow (although you should still play Powered Gauntlets for the hand size if you have no other tech upgrades). Like always, Arc Reactor is the best tech upgrade, followed closely by Energy Barrier. Always maximize tech upgrades played on turn 1. Pepper Potts can be considered if she won't slow you down too much.
Strategy You want to flip to hero form once you have about 4 upgrades or more on turn 2. Use your Arc Reactor and Multiple Man thwart to stabilize versus annoying side schemes that give more encounter cards or prevent damage to the villain. You should ignore most minions unless they can cause you to lose the game before you can finish the villain.
Tips and Tricks
- Try to always get a triple Multiple Man or just skip him entirely this shuffle. He can also be good Rocket Boots fodder!
- Make sure your Multiple Mans and Repulsor Blasts are in the discard before each reshuffle if possible.
- You can break stunned and tough statuses with your basic attack and Powered Gauntlets.
Strengths
- Repulsor Blast goes brrrr
- Much quicker than regular Iron Man builds
- Most efficient cost/average damage event in the game.
Weaknesses
- Hard to recover from a bad start
- Weak to scenarios with many medium health minions
- Has a hard time dealing with multiple high priority side schemes quickly
Why Electrostatic Armor? Iron Man doesn't want to defend! Just play it if needed for the hand size. If you don't need the thwart, it actually makes defending as Iron Man just as efficient as basic attacks!
