This deck is an update to an older Rocket deck I created: Rocket Does "A Bit of Both". Compared to the old version, this one is leaner and much more focused on reaping the most value from Rocket's basic THW. It's designed to be played alongside a Nebula Protection deck with a similar "Partners in Crime" name. you can find it in my published decks list.
Rocket's basic THW is the engine powering this pair of decks. You will want to seek cards that boost his THW stat in your mulligan. He can reach 3 THW with Thruster Boots and we can boost it up to 5 with a copy of Heroic Intuition and of Surveillance Specialist, courtesy of Specialized Training. 5 THW is a lot in 2p and it's almost enough to thwart down many player side schemes (and many villain side schemes) in a single hero activation. I've Got a Plan and C.I.T.T. give you extra thwart value, either letting you hit that one THW for a side scheme threshold or do a big thwart on the main scheme.
Then it's a just a matter of playing the deck synergies. Overwatch, Chance Encounter, and Skilled Investigator give Rocket extra value for his sky-high basic thwart. 4x player side schemes and 2x One Way or Another let him use his thwart to accelerate the board state for him and Nebula. Lastly, 3x Waylay let him lay on some villain-grade damage to close out the game. I considered swapping Waylay out for the more resource-efficient Turn the Tide, but this is an overall cheap deck. Rocket will have the late-game resources to pay for the bigger, more impactful, damage.
Rocket's deck has a much greater focus on allies, compared to Nebula. Manifold and Vivian help manage side schemes. Ironheart and Gamora give some utility, card draw, and are emergency blockers if Nebula gets a bad draw. Groot provides a more durable answer to blocking pesky minions and gives extra value with Flora and Fauna. Flora and Fauna is arguably an indulgent card, but Nebula's defensive focus means Groot is unlikely to die from blocking a villain attack, making the team-up event more likely to deliver value. This deck is thwart focused, but Rocket loves his toys in every aspect.
I hope you this deck and its Nebula-pairing. Thwart-y Rocket is a lot of fun and you often have a few resources leftover to play an ally or weapon upgrade for a bit of extra value. Find yourself a partner in crime and have fun!
