Groot
Grow Groot quickly with Growth Counters and establish your board with Helicarrier, Clarity of Purpose, Deft Focus, and Mission Leader. Getting a first turn Fertile Ground is solid as well to build up counters quickly, but it's not always necessary in the late game.
Regroot on the Hill
Defend and play any allies you can to protect your *Growth Counters while you search for Maria Hill. Once you find her, try to keep her around with Regroup and Rapid Response. If she ends up in the discard, use Make the Call to get her back, ideally as a called action on the 1st-player's turn.
Branch Out
Once you are fully grown and in a regular cycle of recurring Maria, it's time to start dropping "I. AM. GROOT!" and "I am Groot" at peak efficiency.
Remember to support the team with "We Are Groot", because you can easily flip down and back up over the course of a turn to refill your counters, or start recovering them with a well placed Root Stomp.
Lastly, make use of your Groot upgrades if the situation warrants. A clutch 3-Thwart, 4-Attack, or ready can help save the day, especially at lower player counts.
