Spider-Woman: Massive Brute Attack Force (A/L)

Let's Win by Brute Force

Everyone is dropping their hot Brute Force decks and it's time to bring some of my jank out of the closet. @Brian-V and @teamcanadahockey have both shown great uses for Brute Force taking advantage of new cards from Valkyrie's pack. They are super fun and hopefully here's another choice for this underused card.

While Aggression has lots of synergy with Brute Force we can take things in a different direction by using two aspects with Spider-Woman. Today let's talk about the combo of Brute Force and Mass Attack and how we can set up a swing to knock out a villain stage all in one hit.

General Strategy

The general idea behind this deck is to get 3 allies on the board, pump them up, and then use them with Mass Attack. We don't particularly card between Captain Marvel, Hulk, and Wasp but we definitely want She-Hulk!

Are we going to use these allies for Chumping?

No

Are we going to use these allies for Thwarting?

No

Are we going to use them for Massive swings and as Strength In Numbers batteries?

Most Certainly

Early game you are going to be relying on Spider-Woman's ability to get to 2-3 THW or 2-3 DEF and hold down the fort. Make good use of Pheromones while you search for Finesse and your 3 allies. Once you allies are on the board we will focus on getting each ally equipped with a copy of Enraged and Inspired. This will pump Carol to 5 ATK, Hulk and Wasp to 6 ATK and She-Hulk to 4 ATK. Be sure to use She-Hulk to help Thwart and get her down to 1 hit point - for an added bonus you can drop a Reinforced Suit onto her and get her attack as high as 9!

If you happen upon them and can afford them be sure to get down Boot Camp and Mighty Avengers - in some cases it makes sense to swap Strength In Numbers for Band Together to help afford these lofty 3 cost cards but I've general found SIN to help me more early game so I've kept it here for now.

Let's take a moment and look at the ally side of the board:

With Boot Camp (+1), Mighty Avengers (+1), Inspired(+1) and Enraged(+2) each ally is currently at +5 ATK.

This gives:

Hulk 8 ATK

Wasp 8 ATK

She-Hulk 6 ATK

If we can additionally get down a Reinforced Suit onto She-Hulk she can jump another 5 ATK from her innate ability, leaving out allies with 27 combined ATK. This is more than enough to take out most villain stages in one swing - so don't feel like you have to get ALL of this on the board, aim for about 15-20 combined ATK between your allies.

Brute Force What?

Wait Kennedy? I thought this deck was about Brute Force you haven't even mentioned in yet. Oh yeah, that's right - let's read the text of Mass Attack again.

"Exhaust 3 allies you control that share a trait with your hero" check

"deal X damage to an enemy , where X is the total ATK of those allies and your hero."

So Spider-Woman's ATK gets added to this as well!

So now let's set up our hero. With a base ATK of Spider-Woman is nothing to get excited about, but when we drop 3 copies of Brute Force on the board and maybe a Combat Training she's up to a 5 base ATK. She gains an additional 1 when she plays Mass Attack bumping her to 6. So with our fully optimized ally set you can swing for 33 with a single copy of Mass Attack. That's enough to take down even the sturdiest of villain phases in one blow!

You're going to need to use Spider-Woman's base stats for something other than ATK or the Brute Forces will fall off so you'll mostly be thwarting or defending with her pumped stats from the typically 1-2 aspect cards you can afford a turn.

Other Notes

Why Leadership Training?

Spider-Woman has access to confuse so we want to ensure we get good use of our flips. Since our entire combo revolves around Mass Attack we want to make sure we can shuffle those back into our deck at just the right moment.

No extra resources?

I would if I could! There are plenty of high cost cards which is counter intuitive to Spider-Woman's ability. You may choose to add in some copies of Band Together and remove an Inspired or Strength In Numbers. Dropping 2 Inspired for 2 Band Together is the way to go if this is your goal. It's less cards to get into play and the resource paying for Boot Camp or Mighty Avengers easily makes up for the loss of Inspired.

What if you draw into your allies later in your deck?

This is a really good question. I've had plenty of games where my 4 allies don't show up early. You could consider dropping 1 Inspired for a Wonder Man to get another ally in your deck. You could also drop 1-2 for Call for Aid which is sure to hit one of your 4 targets. Ultimatly, Spider-Woman can stand on her own - if you aren't drawing allies you are drawing into Pheromones or Contaminant Immunity to get you a few more rounds into the game. You can instead focus the early game on getting down Finesse, Mighty Avengers and Boot Camp the allies will come - eventually.

What about other cheap Leadership alternatives like Teamwork?

I definitely think there's a deck there but I'll leave that to my friends dr00 and Brian-V

Editor’s note I know a few others are brewing a similar deck to this. They aren’t simply copy pasta - when they come out give them a read and I encourage anyone reading this to make their own tweaks and write up their own decks. I’m confident there are decks out there with untapped potential using older cards like Brute Force and anyone is capable of discovering them!

Maybe Mass Attack isn’t your style but you really want to try Brute Force with Spider-Woman. Give A/P with Counter-Punch a try!

Maybe you really like the new alliance cards. You can make a massive Drax and sneak him in with Make the Call - this lets you use As One! as your combo piece instead.
